Terms of Use
Last updated
These terms apply to your use of OpenFileKit (openfilekit.com) and the tools on it. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
The service
OpenFileKit provides free tools that open and convert files — saved emails and GPS map files — inside your web browser. You do not need an account. Tools may be added, changed or removed at any time, and the site may be unavailable from time to time.
No warranty
The site and its tools are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
File formats vary a great deal between the programs that produce them. We do not promise that every file will open, that a file will be displayed exactly as it appears in the program that created it, or that a converted file will contain everything that was in the original.
Your files and your responsibility
- You are responsible for the files you open and convert, and for having the right to do so. Only use the tools with files you own or are permitted to access.
- Keep your original files and your own backups. The tools read your file and do not change it, but you should never rely on this site as the only way to get at something important.
- Check converted files and PDFs before you rely on them, share them or delete the originals — especially where the result will be used for legal, financial, navigation or safety purposes.
- Tracks, routes and placemarks shown on a map are for information only. Do not rely on them as your sole means of navigation.
Files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to us. The privacy policy explains this in detail.
Acceptable use
When using the site, you agree not to:
- use it for anything unlawful, or to open or convert files you have no right to access;
- attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or the systems that deliver it;
- use automated means to request pages at a rate that puts an unreasonable load on the site, or to generate artificial ad impressions or clicks;
- copy or republish the site, or present its tools as your own, without permission.
Advertising
The site is funded by advertising, which is supplied by third parties such as Google. We do not choose the individual ads, and an ad appearing on the site is not a recommendation of the product or service it promotes. Any dealings you have with an advertiser are between you and that advertiser. How advertising uses cookies is described in the privacy policy.
Intellectual property
The site’s design, text and code belong to OpenFileKit or its licensors, and the open-source components it uses remain under their own licences. Your files remain yours: we claim no rights in anything you open or convert.
OpenFileKit is an independent project. Outlook, Gmail, Google Earth, Garmin and Thunderbird are trademarks of their respective owners. They are mentioned only to describe the file types the tools work with, and their use does not imply any affiliation with, or endorsement by, Microsoft, Google, Garmin, Mozilla or any other company.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, OpenFileKit and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profit or business, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or its tools — including loss caused by a file that failed to open, opened incorrectly or was converted inaccurately.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law that applies to you, and nothing here affects rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
Links to other sites
The site links to other websites and displays ads that lead to them. We are not responsible for the content or practices of sites we do not run.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the site changes. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when they were last revised. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
